Unique covers in "Daisy Ultra" style

Reading time: 2 minutes

We conduct our interview today with the four ladies of the Munich rock formation "Daisy Ultra" and find out why they prefer to perform at festivals.

Your slogan is: Goodies from Funk Rock Pop in Daisy Ultra Style. How would you describe this style?

The Daisy Ultra style can be understood as a combination of sass, toughness and passionate, powerful production with a good portion of female charm and intuition. Typical for the Daisies is, without shyness, to just let all the energy explode on stage and to play with these contrasts. This results in a very unique style, the covers all sound like us.

Daisy Ultra consists exclusively of women. Is there a reason for that and how did you actually come up with this name?

There are very special energies flowing in our band that come together to form a great whole. This actually goes beyond making music, we just complement each other perfectly because we are different characters. Each of us is equally important in the band and together we create this very special, magical combination. The name was once meant as a gag, but because of its grip and the recognition value, it fit us like a glove. It expresses fun, looseness, but also great theater.

That sounds good! How did you get together?

Bylle and Ira have been making music together for a long time and found Josy and Lena in the classic way by searching for musicians. Since 2016 Daisy Ultra exists in the current line-up with Josy Volk, Lena Maier, Ira Stylidiotis and Bylle Baringer.

In your repertoire are songs by Hendrix, Red Hot Chili Peppers, ACDC, Radiohead and many more. Many of the bands are strongly influenced by the male voices. With you the songs get a completely own note by the female voice again. Do you want to consciously set yourselves apart here?

Delimiting is not the right thing to do! Of course we have a lot of freedom of interpretation. It doesn't make sense to want to doggedly take over the songs that men once interpreted one-to-one with a woman's voice. This gives you a great chance to strike out in completely new directions. And this makes the whole thing even more unique, which clearly distinguishes us from other cover bands. Nevertheless, we don't want to give too much weight to it, because we are us, regardless of gender. And we choose the songs that we think are great.

That's an announcement! You've already performed at many festivals, including the Tollwood Festival. Is that your thing or is your program also tailored for other occasions?

We love festivals!!!
It's just awesome with our band to stand on big stages and rock out!
like recently at the CSD on Munich's Marienplatz. But we also play in smaller locations and live clubs. But also private parties or closed events are not an issue. Basically we are open for everything. As long as we have fun...

What are your goals for 2018? What will your fans hear from you and Daisy Ultra?

We definitely want to play more! Not only in Bavaria, but throughout Germany. Especially in the summer, when the festivals come, we want to be even more present here. We are a live band and this priority we want to tackle even more intensively for the year 2018!

Thank you very much for the interview!
